A report from the LA TIMES claims Kaczynski may have been involved the Harvard/CIA LSD experiments
And I thought I just made it up! (Maybe he got it from me.) http://www.latimes.com/cgi-bin/archsearch-cgi?DBQUERY=cockburn&DATE=last+6+months&SECT=&SORT=d%3Ah&NITEMS=25
We're Reaping Tragic Legacy From Drugs; Culture: From government LSD experiments to overuse of drugs like Ritalin, the consequences are overwhelming.; Tuesday, July 6, 1999 Home Edition Section: Metro ID: 0990060518 Words: 625 Byline: ALEXANDER COCKBURN Alexander Cockburn writes for the Nation and other publications It turns out that Theodore Kaczynski, a.k.a. the Unabomber, was a volunteer in mind-control experiments sponsored by the CIA at Harvard in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
You need to "Purchase Story" to read the rest. I will summarize.
Michael Mello, The United States of America vs. Theodore John Kaczynski. CLAIMS that during 1958-1962 "Kaczynski agreed to be the subject of "a psychological experiment."" Researcher Lt Col in Office of Strategic Services. Cockburn CLAIMS this person is Dr. Henry Murray (--1988), chairman of dept of Social Relations at Harvard. Continued Mind control experiments a la Nazis. Overall program under control of Sidney Gottlieb (CIA tech services div. head)
Then is only a suggestion of connection with Kaczynski, no facts.
Then, just because both are "drugs", from LSD disorientaion research he starts on current prescriptions. Lumps together.
Then "other human time bombs" on drugs. Examples: Eric Harris (Luvox). Kip Kinkel (Prozac).
A 15 y old girl told Cockburn that 80&per; of her class were on Prozac, Ritalin or Dexedrine. [ How does she know?]
Ritalin 2 million Amer. schoolchildren. over prescribed.
Peter Greggin, books on Prozac and Ritalin
Richard Scarnati article in 1986 International Journal of the Addictions.
"In 1996, the Drug Enforcement Administration denounced the use of Ritalin "
All in all, article insufficiently informative.
Oddly Clifford Pickover in Strange Brains and Genius: The Secret Lives of Eccentric Scientists and Madmen, 1998, says that Kaczynski was on an antidepressant Trazodone (brandname Desyrel Desynel ?) No prescription apparent. Self-medicated. Effects: "sedative, priapism, heart arrhythms, drowisness, fatigue, lethargy, retardation, lightheadedness, dizzyness,.... delusions, paranoia."
The book has a chapter on Kaczynski, IQ 170. However, it was not very much more informative than what is in the current web pages. He didn't do much investigative reporting. Like, what else is on the book list of 236 books found in the cabin?
"Pickover is the lead writer for the brain boggler colume in Discover magazine and the author... featured on PBS, Discovery Channel and CNN." It's always sad to see a writer and biophysicist with so much promise go downhill.
